Time: Top 10 End-of-the-World Prophecies (Look who made the list)
by NomadSoul inharold camping is certainly not the first to forecast the end of days.
time takes a look at other movements that have scared people into believing their days were numbered.
the onset of world war i freaked a lot of people out.

Why the stunning lack of accurate, historical evidence for Jesus Christ?
by nicolaou inby no means a new topic for discussion but always worth a fresh airing .
i'd suggest that the 1st century was quite a well documented time.
we have lots of historical evidence for important people who actually existed.

We really only know of Socrates because of Plato, I daresay few if any have ever called his existence into question.

Room 215
"Jesus is now recognized by Jehovah's Witnesses as the reigning king, who, since the year 1914, has been ruling 'in the midst of his enemies.' (Psalm 110:2) It is this sacred pronouncement about the "good news of the kingdom" that Jehovah's Witnesses are now preaching "in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations"; this prophecy is undergoing fulfillment in our day. (Matthew 24:14)"
What can transform such a tenuous stitching together of disparate scriptures, separated by centuries in their composition, combined with a liberal dose of mathematical legerdemain, into an unequivocal fact? 1914? Why not 1874 or 1934?

Interesting that they release a Knorr-Franz retrospective DVD; they used to denigrate nostalgia because, as they loved to say "worldy people have nothing to look forward to, so they obssess over the past!" Their spiritual cupboard is looking pretty bare these days, if that's all they can offer.

Camping ''bewildered'' and ''mystyfied'', but check who is taking blame...
by Aussie Oz inhttp://www.670kboi.com/rssitem.asp?feedid=118&itemid=29671679.
new york) -- harold camping is "mystified" and "a little bewildered" that the rapture did not go as he predicted, an associate of the california preacher told abc news.. .
tom evans, a board member of camping's family radio international, said that camping's wife told him her husband is at their home in oakland and has no intention to speak or issue any statement on sunday or monday.. .

"Robert Fitzpatrick of New York had put his money where his faith is: The 60-year-old retiree spent $140,000 -- almost everything he had -- on hundreds of billboards proclaiming the Armagedon that Camping predicted."
Tragic, of course, but it does illuminate how one would naturally behave if he/she REALLY, REALLY believes the end is imminent, and the fate of billions hang in the balance. Compare -- and contrast -- this with the dawdling, shuffling door-to-door meandering approach of JWs, and the WTBTS's refusal to employ its considerable resources to use all means of modern telecommunication to get the word out, whatever they profess to believe about the nearness of the end.

Two possible reasons why some elders stay in the organization.
by Iamallcool indo you think some elders stay in the organization just because of prestige and getting horny at some judicial committee meetings?

Although in the minority. there are those who see things clearly, and think they might serve as the "voice of reason" for the friends to turn to for balanced, temperate, compassionate counsel. In this, they of course run the risk of conflict with the hard-liners on the body.

How would you respond to this JW apologist II - THE SEQUEL
by Black Man inas you know, i'm embroiled in a family and internet debate/dialogue w/jws the last few days.
and you all have been helping get great points in.
the text that i'm about to post come from a jw apologist who has acknowledge some of my comments about jws being a cult and that no tolerance for questioning them is one of the signs of a cult.

As Cervantes once said: "I can live with questions I can't answer but NOT with questions I can't ask (or, alternately, "answers I can't question")."
